Merchants of Doubt Screening

  • Washington Ethical Society 7750 16th Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20012 United States (map)

The Washington Ethical Society’s (WES) The Earth Ethics Team will show “Merchants of Doubt” at 7 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in the WES library. Inspired by the acclaimed book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, this documentarytakes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin. Filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silver- tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change. As concerned citizens, we have a special responsibility to speak the truth, especially when manufactured confusion about climate change is endangering the very people we are most called to serve: the vulnerable and the voiceless, and the natural world.

WES is located at 7750 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20012, about 3 miles south of the Washington Beltway. WES is also less than one mile from the Silver Spring Metro station and right next to the S4 bus stop at Kalmia Road.
